Alumni Stories

Zakaria Mustafa

I’ve been at Ottawa Islamic School since I was in Junior Kindergarten, and this place has shaped so much of who I am. One of my proudest moments here was finishing the Quran in Grade 6, an accomplishment that sparked my love for both learning and spirituality. Throughout high school, I was given the opportunity to lead Taraweeh prayers, which taught me the importance of discipline, responsibility, and staying connected to my faith. Academically, I graduated with a 96 average in Grade 12, but it wasn’t just about the grades. The balance between academics and faith that this school nurtured in me hasbeen a guiding force. I’m incredibly grateful for the support from the teachers, the lessons learned, and the sense of community I’ve experienced here, all of which continue to influence my life every day.

Hussein Ahmed Youssouf

Having been at Ottawa Islamic School since Junior Kindergarten, this place has truly shaped who I am. It’s not just the academics that stand out, but the values instilled in me — from integrity and kindness to the importance of staying grounded in faith. The teachers didn’t just teach lessons; they guided us to grow as individuals and as leaders in our community. Even after graduating, the lessons I learned here continue to influence my decisions and my approach to life. I’m grateful for the memories, the friendships, and the strong foundation that Ottawa Islamic School provided me with — lessons I’ll carry with me always.
